Wine tasting event photography with Slonk wine/ Rias Baxias/Photographing a Wine Tasting Event: Behind the scenes!

I feel so thankful to be able to document  and photograph such a great event with Slonk wine/ for Rias Baxias wines at Kampai Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh UK. Kampai as a wonderful selection of amazing Japanese food and sushi. The wines were represented by Isobel from Slonk Wine and Miguel Crunia from Fion wines. The event was organised by https://www.dillonmorrall.com.

Wine tasting events are a great opportunity to capture stunning photos of people enjoying their favorite wines. As a photographer, it's important to know how to capture the essence of the event and showcase the beauty of the wines being tasted. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get the best shots at your next wine tasting event.

1. Understand the Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in any type of photography, and wine tasting events are no exception. Generally, wine tasting events are held in low-light settings, which can be challenging for photographers. It's important to adjust your camera settings accordingly to compensate for the low light. This particular venue only had one source of light so I switched between 2 lenses and a speed light. I use my NikonZ 7 which can take very low light scenarios. But in this case use a speed light and I can take it off camera and bounce light easier.  Be mindful of your ISO settings, too - a higher ISO can help capture more light, but can also lead to more noise in your photos.

2. Capture the Atmosphere

Wine tasting events are all about the atmosphere - the clinking of glasses, the murmurs of conversation, and the sound of wine being poured. Make sure to capture the ambiance of the event by photographing the details. Take shots of the wine glasses, the wine bottles, the table settings, and the decor. These details can help tell the story of the event and add depth to your photos.

3. Focus on the People

Ultimately, wine tasting events are about people coming together to enjoy wine and good company. Make sure to capture shots of people enjoying themselves. Take candid shots of people laughing and enjoying their wine. Try to capture the expressions on people's faces as they taste the wine. These shots can be some of the most compelling and memorable photos from the event.

4. Experiment with Angles

Don't be afraid to experiment with different angles and perspectives. Try shooting from above or below to add interest and variety to your photos. Take close-up shots of the wine glasses and bottles to capture the details. Play with depth of field to focus on certain elements of the scene. These techniques can help create unique and visually stunning photos.

In conclusion, photographing a wine tasting event can be a fun and rewarding experience. By following these tips and tricks, you can capture the essence of the event and create stunning photos that tell the story of the day.
