WINNING FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE, SCOTTISH TOMATO SEASON AND ME

What a summer it has been summer. Working on Food photography projects in Edinburgh, eating lots of Scottish tomatoes and just enjoying being a food photographer in Edinburgh! Scotland. It seems like we cannot get enough tomatoes this summer! Speaking of Scottish tomatoes! they helped me to win.. well not exactly.. but still!

So I also decided to finally participate in the 2022 “Little Plantation Food photography challenge’’ and win the composition theme! How amazing is that?

She hosts a photography challenge every year and this year I felt like maybe I should try to challenge myself and do it.

When I studied Painting, I always thought that my compositions were very abstract and when I started working more and more with Food and photography as my main medium I found myself in a different game. In Food photography we are looking for that comfortable balance, but also playing with the negative space. I always try to leave some space and to use 3 as a number in my compositions. When I look at my paintings strangely I am finding very similar repetitive themes!

Either way, I think what is important with this post, is that we try different things and get out of our comfort zone. I love bold, and sharp photography and sometimes I forget to try different styles and even colour palettes.

So next time you unsure about something maybe just give it a go and see what happens.
